10 Daring bandits stage rescue of an arrested comrade from hospital


Details of how ten bandits stormed a county hospital in Elgeyo Marakwet County and rescued one of their own who had been arrested after bullets were retrieved from his body can now be revealed.

According to a police report seen by Nairobi News, ten bandits stormed Iten County Referral Hospital in Elgeyo Marakwet County to rescue one of their own, Dennis Kemboi, who had been arrested after bullets were retrieved from his body.

Kemboi had been receiving treatment at the hospital and was stable when police officers received information that he was trying to escape.

“On Monday, April 10, 2023, at about midnight police officers acted on information that a patient being treated of gunshot wounds at Iten County Referral Hospital was intending to escape from the facility. Ten police officers drawn from DCI Keiyo North and Iten police station visited the said facility and found the patient namely Dennis Kemboi in stable condition,” the report read in part.

Four officers agreed to assist in his discharge, while six officers were to man the main hospital gate.

However, at 2:10am, a group of ten young men, six armed with AK47 rifles, arrived and rescued Kemboi.

The bandits smashed windows, but no one was injured.

Police officers and others searched the area but failed to make any arrests. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Keiyo North is now handling the matter.
