10-year-old girl’s ordeal: They defiled me and stuffed things into private parts

Three men are in police custody on suspicion of jointly defiling a 10-year-old girl in Bamburi, Mombasa.

In a police report detailing the barbaric nature of the incident, the minor described how the three men sexually assaulted her in turns at an abandoned rooftop of a building located in Bamburi’s Fisheries area.

The suspects then stuffed her private parts with old clothes and tissue papers.

One of the suspects, who runs a barbershop in the same building, is said to have lured the minor while she was playing with her three-year-old sister.

In her statement to the police dated February 5, 2023, the minor said after one of the suspects had defiled her, he asked a co-worker to also assault her as the third suspect kept watch at the main entrance of the building.

The girl told the police that she knew the suspects.

“I was playing outside when he (the first suspect) asked my sister and I to go and play with them on the rooftop of a neighbouring building. He held my hand and that of my younger sister as we went to the rooftop. He then tied her to a post as he proceeded to defile me,” she told the police in her statement.

She added that she screamed but no one heard her.

The victim was found unconscious at the scene with her younger sibling having fallen asleep beside her.

A medical report released by the Coast General Hospital showed that the minor had been defiled, and that she suffered injuries on her private parts.

Last year, two men were sentenced to life imprisonment after a Mombasa court found them guilty of gang-raping, and attempting to murder a 31-year-old woman by tying her at the Kibarani Railway track in Mombasa county.

Stephen Otieno Okalu and Stephen Mzee Thomas alias Kirenje were convicted for the offence of attempted murder and gang rape contrary to section 220 (a) of the Penal Code and section 10 of the Sexual Offences Act respectively.
