1,000 traffic marshals to be hired by June
The county is recruiting 1000 traffic marshals to replace police officers from roads.
They should be deployed at the beginning of June according to the County Public Service Board chairman Philip Kung’u.
He said they received 9,000 applications and had short-listed 2,502.
“They are required to attend a recruitment interview at Dagoretti Training School from May19 to 20th at 8am,” he said.
The training will be funded by the World Bank to the tune of about Sh86 million.
Some of the requirements include a national Identity Card, Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education as well as a certificate of good conduct from police.
Sorting
According to the time line by the board, the officers will be trained for two weeks.
“ They will be instrumental in sorting the traffic mess on our roads,” Mr Kung’u said.
This is the second time the board is doing mass recruitment. Last year Governor Evans Kidero said 300 marshals were to be deployed on city roads by March 1. But the plans was postponed.
The recruitment of the first batch of officers already on selected roads was wrought with claims of graft with nominated ward representatives alleging they were left out of the process.
They said their elected counterparts were handed slots to dish to their relatives and cronies.
Karura Representative Kamau Thuo admitted that questions have been raised over the manner the marshals were recruited.
