At least eleven officers from the General Service Unit (GSU) were among the people killed in the accident in Naivasha on Saturday night.

The officers from the Presidential Guard based at the State House were from Bomet where President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto had visited.

“The fatalities included 11 officers from the General Service Unit (GSU) who provide VIP protection, including to His Excellency the President,” Mr Manoa Esipisu said.

The officers from the ‘G’ Company were travelling in a Toyota Landcruiser registration number GK B 961G back to Nairobi after the presidential coverage.

Officers from the Presidential Guard Company, commonly referred to as the ‘G’ Company are solely charged with the duties of protecting the various state houses and lodges.

Other sources however said that 12 officers died but one survived and is said to be in a critical condition.

The president has gone to commission the upgrading and construction of two roads to bitumen and also commissioned medical equipment at the Longisa county referral hospital.
