Student,15, dies by suicide in Dagoretti


Mutuini residents in Dagoreti area have been left in shock after a 15-year-old boy died by suicide in Kandutu village.

The teenager is said to have dropped out of school but had agreed to return in the company of his aunt but went missing over the weekend.

His mother told police that she went to work and when she came back later in the evening, she found the deceased body hanging on the roof of their guest house.

No suicide note was recovered at the scene. The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy.

In Ngara, a 12-year-old girl found her mother dead in their bedroom having hanged herself using a scarf.

The husband of the 36-year-old woman identified as Ramilaben Harshabhai said he received a phone call while at work from his daughter informing him of the incident.

No suicide note was found; her body was taken to MP Shah Hospital mortuary.

Meanwhile, in Lang’ata, a 40-year-old man who had been missing for days was found dead in his house at Lynks Apartment after a suspected suicide.

Martin Nyaga body was discovered by the house caretaker who was then taking a new tenant around to view the houses on offer on Saturday.

The caretaker told police that a foul smell emanating from the apartment where he stayed is what alerted him.

He added the deceased had not been seen for days and after police arrived and broke into the house, they found the body hanging from the ceiling with a rope tied around his neck.

In South B, a 31-year-old male was body was found in his bathroom with a clothe around his neck.

Elsewhere a suspect who was wanted after failing to attend court over defilement was saved by cellmates after a failed suicide.

The suspect had tried to hang himself in the cells after he had been arrested and placed in custody at Ntimary police station, Kuria.

Kennedy Mwera was rushed to the hospital following the failed suicide mission pending his arraignment.

Police say there has been an increase in cases of suicide in the country.
