Rate defaulters risk losing prime property in Muthaiga

Wealthy Kenyans in the swanky Muthaiga estate are set to lose their prime property on Tuesday as the Nairobi County Government cracks down on rate defaulters.

A statement from City Hall said the Nairobi County will embark on an exercise to clamp buildings whose rates have yet to be paid.

“Rate defaulters in Muthaiga, among them prominent personalities and organizations, will from tomorrow, Tuesday May 26 2015 lose out on their properties. This follows the crackdown on rate defaulters that now descends on the upmarket residential cum commercial area to recover outstanding rates running into millions of shillings. The exercise will begin at 9am under the command of Mr Godfrey Mwakanongo the county secretary,” said the statement by Fedelis Mwanza from NCC’s Communication department.

This exercise, according to the county secretary, is an attempt recover billions of shillings in rates owed the county by individuals, companies and the national government.
