45 bulls to feed mourners at Jacob Juma’s burial

Forty-five bulls will be slaughtered to feed mourners at the burial of slain businessman Jacob Juma.

Fifteen of them will be killed Friday ahead of the burial and the rest on Saturday, Sirisia MP John Waluke said.

“We have 30 bulls for slaughter on Saturday as a sign of friendship that Juma had with people all over this country,” said Mr Waluke.

On Friday, Mr Abraham Okumu, who is coordinating the burial arrangements at Mr Juma’s rural home, said they were ready to receive the body at Kakamega Airstrip on Friday morning.

“We will have a stopover at Kanduyi before proceeding to Mungore ACK church where a memorial mass will be held,” he said.

“Juma was a great man with friends from all walks of life and a Christian. We are planning a decent Christian send-off for him,” said Mr Okumu.

He denied claims by some family members that they were planning a traditional burial in order to curse his killers. It is believed the ritual can kill the murderers within one week of their victim’s burial.

Family members demanded speedy investigations into Mr Juma’s killing.

His brother Milton Juma said they had petitioned the government to bring the killers to justice.

The late Jacob Juma was the last born in a family of 27 children –  18 boys and nine girls. Juma’s mother was the third wife.
