Nairobi MCA hospitalised after being ‘beaten’ by male colleague
Another controversy over assault erupted at the Nairobi County Government after a Member of County Assembly accused the majority leader of slapping and pushing her to a wall.
Kayole South County Assembly Representative Elizabeth Akinyi Manyala is nursing injuries at the Nairobi Hospital.
She alleged she was assaulted by majority leader Elias Otieno.
However the majority leader, speaking on phone, denied the allegations and instead accused Ms Imanyala of trying to beat him in his office.
This is the second assault incident in the County government after Governor Evans Kidero allegedly slapped Nairobi Women Representative Rachel Shebesh during a heated verbal exchange outside his office in 2013.
SLAPPED AND PUSHED
Ms Imanyala, who spoke in a telephone interview, said that majority leader slapped and pushed her to a wall during the 1pm incident on Wednesday.
“I am currently at the Nairobi Hospital. I am suffering from injuries on my neck and I’m waiting for a CT scan because I might have a crack on my skull,” said Ms Imanyala.
The fight is said to have ensued after the majority leader wrote a short message service (SMS) to the MCA, who is also the chairlady for the County Women Caucus, asking her to sign off Sh 800,000 from the account of the caucus.
Mr Otieno said that he had been approached by members of the caucus to intervene because they needed money to attend to a sports event in Mombasa next week.
“I wrote her an SMS which stated please communicate to Ngwele (County Clerk) because the ladies want assistance,” said Mr Otieno.
FURIOUS
He said that Ms Imanyala walked in his office at City Hall on Wednesday morning while furious and banging his table and throwing her shows off.
She dared him to beat her, he claimed.
“I heard Ms Imanyala shout and bang the table, removing her shoes and threatening to tear her clothes. I do not remember beating her,”said Mr Otieno.
He said members of the women caucus were seated in his office during the incident and can back his account.
However another MCA, who refused to be named for fear of intimidation, alleged that the majority leader assaulted Ms Imanyala and that they will be calling a press conference to address the issue.
