5 Twitter changes introduced by Elon Musk after take over

Elon Musk bought Twitter at $44 billion (Sh5.3 trillion) and in a span of two weeks, he has made a number of changes.

This includes making announcements on features that will be soon incorporated into the bird app.

Musk justified his reason for buying Twitter.

“The reason I acquired Twitter is that it is important to the future of civilization to have a common digital town square, where a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a healthy manner, without resorting to violence.”

Below are some of the features;

Verification payments

Musk announced that for every verified Twitter handle, the owner will part with Sh800 monthly to keep the blue tick.

Additionally, Twitter Blue users shall part with Sh2,428 monthly.

“Twitter’s current lords & peasants system for who has or doesn’t have a blue checkmark is bullshit. Power to the people! Blue for $8/month,” he tweeted.

Adding that the price would be adjusted regarding a country proportionate to purchasing power parity.

A verified account is designed to make people aware that the account is authentic and for one to receive the blue badge, their account must be authentic, notable, and active.

Permanently suspending impersonation handles

This he said was to avoid impersonation handles.

Adding that Twitter is currently rolling out widespread verification and there will be no warning before suspending  the parody accounts, Musk shared, “This will be clearly identified as a condition for signing up to Twitter Blue.”

Top executives laid off

Hours after becoming the CEO of the bird app, Musk fired at least four top executives.

According to the Washington Post, Chief executive Parag Agrawal, chief financial officer Ned Segal, and Vijaya Gadde, head of legal policy, trust, and safety, were let go.

Content monetization and moderation

The Tesla CEO announced that Twitter would be forming a content moderation council with widely diverse viewpoints saying, “No major content decisions or account reinstatements will happen before that council convenes.” Additionally, he said that a creator would benefit monetary wise from all content.

Advertisers are not a free-for-all scape

Saying that he would want Twitter to be the most respected advertising platform, Musk shared, “Twitter obviously cannot become a free-for-all hell scape, where anything can be said with no consequences!

In addition to adhering to the laws of the land, our platform must be warm and welcoming to all, where you can choose your desired experience according to your preferences, just as you can choose, for example, to see movies or play video games ranging from all ages to mature.”
