Police in Eldoret have arrested 57 people who reported at the Moi barracks on Monday with fake calling papers.

The group had reported at the barracks together with hundreds of other genuine Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) recruits who were reporting at the barracks.

Eldoret West DCIO Ali Samatar told Nairobi News that the 57 people are being detained at the Eldoret central station and are helping police with investigations.

Police suspect the fake calling letters were sold by a cartel that had a national network.

This is because the people arrested with the fake letters were drawn from across all regions in the country.

Mr Samatar said initial interrogations indicate that some of those arrested had not participated in the nationwide recruitment exercise.

The group will be arraigned in court after police finish investigations.
