It might be fun while you are indulging but Wairimu recommends that you can take a break from alcohol and try an alcohol-free life. She says that you will free terrific, have quality relationships and have a lot of free time.

Here are some productive things you could do, if you want a break from drinking:

1. Nature hike or run – Get outside. Being in nature is great since you can run, walk, and if you live near a park you can always exercise and in the end you will feel more productive. The Karura Forest or Nairobi Arboretum are very good places were you can either walk or exercise.

2. Meditate – If you’ve never done it please try it. Meditation improves your stress tolerance, confidence, sleep, acceptance, balance, and happiness. Most importantly, you will view life differently.

There are few things that might kill you so don’t sweat the small stuff. Go to Facebook and look for meditation groups and you won’t regret it.

3. Take on a life-changing challenge – Try to run a half marathon. Just the thought of it will make you sober, or you may want to take on something even more intense like running the entire 42 km.

Working towards something that may be unobtainable will transform your character. Whatever, you choose being tested in life can only make you a better person.

4. Nourish with quality food – You can invest the money you save from not drinking alcohol in quality food. It doesn’t have to break the bank.

Learn how to cook, there’s so much free information on the internet. Besides, there’s something wonderful about being connected to your food.

5. Take time to think – Nothing else just you and your thoughts. Sit, think, and ponder. Strategize about important things like health, wealth, love, happiness but not what the colour car or size of TV you should buy. These won’t help your long-term happiness.

6. Contribute – Visit an orphanage or a children’s home. Do some charity work, go feed the homeless, spent time with the elderly, it will have impact to your life.
