80-year-old granny linked to kidnapping gang shot dead

An 80-year-old woman is among three people gunned down by police in Murang’a for allegedly kidnapping a woman.

County Police Commander Mohammed Farah said the three had kidnapped Margaret Waithera and demanded a Sh5 million ransom.

The three suspected kidnappers were killed by detectives in Gathuku village, Murang’a County.

Ms Waithera was kidnapped one week ago on her way home in the neighbouring Kiria village by the gang and was held at one of the suspect’s home.

Waithera says she was driving a saloon car along a road that is filled with potholes and had slowed down when she saw the vehicle signaling her from behind.

DEMANDED RANSOM

The gang then ordered her to stop before bundling her into their vehicle and driving away. They later demanded a ransom of Sh5 million shillings.

Police said they tracked the victim’s phone which led them to the kidnappers and were able to rescue her.

Police recovered an AK 47 rifle and a toy pistol at the house where the suspects were hiding.

Investigations are underway to determine if more suspects were involved in the kidnapping and the role played by the granny.
