Abel Mutua discloses how Tahidi High salary affected his marriage

Actor Abel Mutua has left his fans in stitches after he recently revealed how he and his producer wife Judy Nyawira were bad at handling money in their years together as a couple.

While speaking in an episode on the Joy Ride podcast with gospel singer Ben Cyco and Influencer Wanjiru Njiru, Abel disclosed that handling money was something that he was really poor at and his wife was equally as bad when it came to money matters.

“We have fumbled with finances for a whole decade. Since we met in 2008, we got financial literacy in 2020. That’s the first time my salary met with another salary. We went through a short course with a chic called Val,” said Abel.

The father of one went on to reveal that they were making a lot of money back in the day ever since his recruitment in the famous Citizen TV show Tahidi High but were not able to fully account for where the money would go.

“It’s not that we even didn’t have money. We used to make money. We entered Citizen when I was 21 years old. The perks that came with just being on Tahidi High were big. One problem we had was the Messiah complex, where you feel like you want to save everyone,” he said.

The renowned storyteller, however, revealed that money didn’t cause friction in their marriage as they were both poor at handling it.

“It didn’t have friction in our marriage because we were both bad with money,” he added.

His wife Judy also added saying that it was only after they sought financial assistance from an expert that they were able to realign their financial goals together.

Judy further revealed that before 2022, they both handled individually and only sort out the bills that needed to be dealt with without necessarily having to create a joint account.

“After 2020, we were very intentional with our money and started putting it together. The way we existed before, my money was mine and his money was his. Ever since we started putting our money together things now started moving. We realized we actually make money,” said Judy.

Abel and Judy are one of the longest-serving celebrity couples in Kenya having been together since their campus days.
