AFC Leopards coach suspends naughty Masika from team

AFC Leopards coach Ivan Minnaert has temporarily barred defender Eric Masika from interacting with the first team.

Minnaert’s decision comes after the Kenya international went away without official leave for the past fortnight.

“Why should I count on a player with such a history (shaky commitment)? He can come and watch the team train but will not be part of training,” the Belgium coach confirmed to Nairobi News.

According to Minnaert, the club has been frantically trying to reach the player for an explanation on his absence without success.

DOING EXAMS

“He says he is doing exams, but this is a practice that one knows well in advance. He never asked for permission, instead claiming he sent a text to our team manager which never reached, ” Minnaert added.

This is not the first time the central defender cum left back is being caught up in controversy.

He is remembered for quitting Gor Mahia to join AFC Leopards in 2011 after getting involved in an intense argument with Gor’s senior officials.

Masika was at it again at the start of last season when he walked out on Sofapaka, barely a fortnight after signing a long term contract with the club.

The player has also struggled for game time this season under Minnaert.
