African Queens ‘spoil’ themselves at Abu Dhabi duty free
Fresh from competing at the FIVB women’s World Cup in Japan, the national women volleyball team took time off to shop at the duty free shops at the Abu Dhabi Airport.
The team was finding it’s way back home from Japan, following the conclusion of the competition on Sunday evening.
Having safely transited a 16 hour trip from Okayama via Tokyo’s Narita Airport to Abu Dhabi, the Malkia Strikers – buoyed by the Government’s move to settle about half of their outstanding allowances – took full advantage of the 4 hours stop over to sample and purchase some of the goods.
The players’ and team officials’ choice of what items to buy for themselves and their loved one back at home were as devise as you can imagine.
While the team’s head coach David Lung’aho took time to check out and purchase lipstick and other beauty accessories his assistant Japheth Munala and the team’s physio Charles Maina were seen making a beeline for the liquor shop.
The team’s vice captain Janet Wanja was keen on sampling some perfumes as the Kenya Prisons duo of Elizabeth Wanyama and Everlyne Makuto chose to satiate their sweet tooth at a nearby chocolate shop.
The African champions, who finished tenth in the 12-team competition that was won by China, arrived back in the country on Tuesday evening.
