National women volleyball team captain Brackides Agala is frustrated by limited play time that she ha been experiencing at her French base a situation occasioned by injury, but remains hopeful of recovering in time for a busy schedule on the international front next year.

The Kenya Prisons attacker was alongside compatriot Jane Wacu, signed by French Division Two side Chamalières on a year long deal last September, but has only managed only two appearances out of a possible 12, owing to a knee inury.

“My knee gives way whenever I start going up for the blocks,” Agala told Nairobi News in an interview from her base in Europe.

“But my employer has given me the best possible medical care which is encouraging, however that doesn’t take away all the frustration of not playing regularly,” she added.

COMEBACK

Agala, who has previously also played professionally in Japan and Greece, is however eyeing a comeback to competitive action in the coming month, as she seeks to get back her form and fitness ahead of the start of the Olympics and World Cup qualifiers mid-next year.

“Our target (with the national team) is to qualify for the Olympic Games, something  our generation has not managed before. We are also looking to retain the Africa Cup of Nations title. I am working hard to regain my fitness so as to lead my colleagues in these assignments,” she added.

Agala says she is determined to work hard and become a successful athlete in France where players from Cameroon, Senegal and Nigerian thrive.

The players believes her performances could open opportunities for other talented players in Kenya to join the paid ranks.
