Veteran sports journalist Sean Cardovillis, who is unwell, has sent out a public appeal for financial assistance in a bid to clear a medical bill that has ballooned in recent days.

Cardovillis, a former NTV and Capital FM journalist, has been hospitalized for a while and recently shared a poster detailing his medical and financial challenges.

“The chest pains he had been experiencing for a while turned out to be pneumonia, and one of his lungs collapsed. He has an infection around his heart,” it reads in part.

It adds that the media personality is receiving professional treatment and is improving, but needs monitoring and further care.

Sean has been in sports as a cyclist, and then as a journalist in radio and television in Kenya and abroad.

He is perhaps the most renowned sports presenter and personality in the country. He has over 20 years radio and television work experience, spanning from KTN and Capital FM in the mid-90’s, to Seychelles for 7 years from 2006 to 2012 with Paradise FM, and Nation Media Group from 2014 to 2020.

His experience ranges from covering local events including the Safari Rally and Safari 7s Rugby Tournaments to covering international events such as the Olympics, Cricket World Cup, African Cup Of Nations, World Rugby Sevens Tournaments, and PGA Tour Golf Events.

He has interviewed World Number one golfer Tiger Woods twice in Dubai at the Dubai Desert Classic and was the only Kenyan journalist at the 2003 Cricket World Cup where the Kenya team reached the semifinals.

He has also interviewed 4 World Rally Champions including Sebastian Loeb, Colin McRae, Richard Burns, and Carlos Sainz, and several athletes, including current world marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge, former world marathon champions Paul Tergat and Haile Gebreselassie.
