Ako na mtu? 5 things to know about Miss Trudy, the trending Kenyan YouTuber

Welcome to Kenya, welcome to the world of YouTube, welcome to the drama surrounding Miss Trudy, born Gertrude Njeri, and her dramas in the past one month. Miss Trudy has been facing online criticism for the past 48 hours, being told off for behaving like a petulant, entitled child after she was caught in the wrong while filming at the Mombasa International Airport and claiming she had done nothing illegal. See, she did commit several offenses and if the Kenya Airport Authorities and other law enforcement agencies decide to investigate her and convict, she is facing hefty fines and jail time.

In a space of one month, aside from annoying God and some of her viewers with her ‘oh my god’ gushing phrase in every two sentences, she also managed to irk Ugandans when she expressed surprise that the country had a national park within its borders.

And so, who is Miss Trudy? Nairobi News lists five things you should know about the fashionable travel and lifestyle vlogger.

  1. She is a 28-year-old YouTube content creator who travels across Africa and other continents, documenting her experiences in foreign nations and showcasing what these countries have to offer tourists.
  2. In addition to lifestyle vlogging, she also interviews high-profile interviewees including billionaire philanthropist Julius Mwale who twice flew her out on a private jet to America to interview him, and millionaires Simon and Sarah Kabu who own the Bonfire Adventures tours and travel company.
  3. She is married to Ghanaian YouTuber, Wode Maya, born Berthold Kobby Winkler Ackon, 32. They held a traditional wedding ceremony in Western Kenya in September 2022, after dating for years. They first met in Ethiopia when Wode Maya flew to the country and called on YouTubers to come and meet him for a get-together. Miss Trudy was one of the YouTubers who answered the call. They began dating shortly after their meeting. They have residences in Ghana and Kenya. Together, the couple says they create content to tell the African stories by Africans for Africa and the world.
  4. Wode Maya (means my mother in Chinese) bought her a Sh 4.8 million Toyota Fortuner 4.0 VXR new shape vehicle for Christmas in December 2022. Nairobi News previously reported that Wode Maya said one of his love languages was buying the women around him cars as he had done the same for his mother and sister. For Miss Trudy, he said she had never stressed him out financially in the course of their four-year relationship, and thought it a good reward.
  5. Miss Trudy is the only daughter of her father and has older brothers. Her mother passed on while she was still a baby and was raised by her father and brothers. She calls herself a Kenyan cocktail because her mother was from the Kikuyu tribe while her father has Luhya and Luo blood flowing in his veins.
