Akothee: Use social media as a learning tool, not as an attack weapon

Kenyan singer and entrepreneur Esther Akoth aka Akothee has dished out free advice to netizens on how best to make use of social media.

According to Akothee, social media should be a learning tool and not just a place where people criticize each other.

The mother of five has also advised the online community to use social media with open minds, adding that social media should not just be a space where you follow others as they follow you back.

“Let Facebook, social media be a tool and not a weapon, also you who go to scroll on social media, go with an open mind to learn, don’t be a follower be a student,” said Akothee.

The self-proclaimed president of single mothers explained that a single post can change one’s life.

“There is so much that you can learn and achieve just by bumping into one post. I bumped into a post of a man who is a farmer. I stayed in his post for an hour. I learnt a lot and my perspective about farming has changed. I will look for him and ask for advice,” she said.

“Anyone who sees social media as a weapon to destroy others, get ready to die poor and miserable, people post their achievements for you to be encouraged and learn not for you to get jealous,” she further said.

Akothee also challenged social media users to fight against poverty and not use it to fight each other.

“Always remember we are not fighting each other, we are all fighting against poverty. No one wants to suffer, we all want to live and not just survive,” she said.
