Al-Shabaab militants suspected of plotting attacks in Nairobi arrested

Police have arrested two terror suspects who were planning attacks in Nairobi’s entertainment joints and churches.

The arrests came after a tip off from the public that led to simultaneous operations in Nairobi and Garissa on Saturday.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by police spokesman George Kinoti, police said the suspect, Abdifatah Nur Ali, was arrested in Nairobi and was found to have various forged identification documents.

The documents; two IDs, a copy of a different ID, an asylum seeker’s pass and a refugee certificate had different names on them but all had his photograph.

FORGED DOCUMENTS

He was also found to be in possession of four mobile phones with sim cards registered under the different names in his documents.

Farah Shale Aden an accomplice of Abdifatah who helped him obtain forged documents was arrested in Garissa.

“Following the arrest of the two suspects, it is believed some of their accomplices have escaped and are on the run and are likely to sneak back to Somalia or infiltrate the refugee camps to evade arrest,” read the statement in part.

Police have launched a manhunt to arrest the accomplices who are on the run.
