Alikiba couldn’t afford to sponsor Wasafi Festival, claims Diamond manager

Bongo flava star Diamond Platinumz camp has revealed why his longtime rival Alikiba failed to keep his promise of being one of the Wasafi Festival sponsors.

Last month, when Diamond announced his Wasafi Festival tour, he reached out to Alikiba with a special request to perform at the inaugural concert in Mtwara, Tanzania, which happened on the November 24.

He dispatched his managers Sallam Sharraf to reach out to Alikiba’s management to see if they could strike a deal.

While many believed Alikiba would instantly reject the offer due to their showbiz battle supremacy that has lasted for more than half a decade, the Mwana hit maker surprised everyone when he said he would instead be a sponsor because he was not available.

WASAFI FESTIVAL

Alikiba promised to sponsor the Wasafi Festival through his energy drink, MoFaya.

However, with the tour coming to an end tonight, that did not come to pass. Diamond’s camp now believes it is because Alikiba could not afford to sponsor an event of such magnitude.

“Maybe they (Alikiba’s management) couldn’t just afford an event of this magnitude as we have never heard from them again since when we contacted them over a deal,” Sallam exclusively told Nairobi News.

Despite the two bongo flava heavyweights failing to reach a deal, they will be both ushering their new year in Kenya.

Diamond and his team will be closing the curtain of the five leg Wasafi Festival tour today at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi while Alikiba will be in Mombasa performing alongside Sauti Sol at the NRG Wave Showdown concert at Mombasa Sports Club.
