All about the Prince’s Trust International that King Charles will meet at Eastlands Library, Nairobi
Later on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, King Charles III and Queen Camilla are expected at the Eastlands Library in Nairobi’s Eastlands area where they will sit down with the Prince’s Trust International for an Enterprise Challenge Engagement.
King Charles III founded the Trust and has been supporting it since 2015.
It currently runs in 20 countries. The Trust aims to support young people worldwide to help them build their own futures as well as complement global efforts to deliver on the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals. To date, the Trust has helped over 50,000 young people since being founded and 66% of their participants successfully entered work, education or training since 2018.
According to the Trust’s official website, their Enterprise programme exists to “give young people the knowledge and skills to succeed in self-employment and enterprise, equipping them to become the job creators of tomorrow.”
The Enterprise Programme provides youth with opportunities to learn what it takes to run businesses and it is said to take a four day intensive course for them to obtain this knowledge. The youth learn how to understand the mindsets of entrepreneurs, how to conduct market research, how to market and target customers, how to prepare business plans, how to register businesses and file taxes as well as how to raise capital to open businesses and manage their money.
At the end of this program, the youth are then matched with business mentors who will help them test out their business ideas. The mentorship will run for up to two years to ensure the youth get as much support as they need.
The meeting will take place at the Eastlands Library within Makadara’s Huduma Center, a library that doubles up as a cultural center and a community meeting place.
According to a prior Nation.Africa report, the Eastlands Library offers space for students to study and have their extra tuition, a children’s play corner for pre-school children, a film screening room where shows are aired every Thursday evening and ocassionally on Saturdays, study and music rooms as well as a small kitchen garden.
King Charles III and Queen Camilla are currently in Kenya on a four day state visit beginning today. They landed yesterday evening and were received by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and the British High Commissioner to Kenya.
