37000 applicants seek 428 Uasin Gishu jobs
By Stanley KimugeSome 37,000 residents are scrambling to be considered for 428 job opportunities advertised by the Uasin Gishu county government.
Elijah Kosgei, the County’s Public Service Executive, confirmed the devolved unit will commence the shortlisting process in the coming week.
“We are going to sieve through those who applied and whether they have the requisite qualifications. The portal did not restrict on the number of those supposed to apply . . . we are going to scrutinize the qualifications and the advertised position,” said the executive.
He assured the applicants that the county would ensure fairness in the recruitment process among the applicants.
“We want to have at least 10 from each of the 30 wards. We will ensure representation of all communities, especially the minorities and people living with disabilities (PWDs); our competent team from the county public service board will ensure fairness,” noted Mr Kosgey.
According to the list released by the county service board, the registered Nurse position had the highest number of applicants at 3029, followed by Senior Counsellor (1840) and senior clerical officer post (1838). The Chief payroll officer had the applicants at 17 positions.

The increased applications further highlight the increase in demand for job opportunities in which the government is struggling to deliver.
To counter such move, President William Ruto has gone all out to seek job opportunities for Kenyans in the USA, Europe and Asia among other areas.
Area Governor Jonathan Bii has previously disclosed that his administration has hired a contracted early childhood education tutor permanently in line with his campaign pledge.
“The ECDE teachers had struggled for many years and now those who had 10,000 earn 23,000, diploma now earn 30,000, and those with degrees to 51,000. I’m confident that with support we will deliver on our promises,” he said.
The county governor reversed the decision that returned the revolving fund to allow patients diagnosed with non-communicable diseases to access medicines in county health facilities and issuance of a directive for the distribution of the drugs to all 138 health facilities.
During his campaigns the governor under Nguzo Kumi, promised to fix health, and agriculture among other issues.
“I have issued a directive that will authorise that upon arrival of drugs from Kemsa, we will get these drugs directly to the health facilities as opposed to being stored in a centralised store,” said the Governor, when distributing over 102 drugs to 118 health facilities.
