Aukot to Ruto: Don’t appoint losers to government positions
By Kevin CheruiyotThirdway Alliance party leader Dr Ekuru Aukot has asked President-Elect William Ruto not to reward his close allies who lost in the concluded election.
Dr Aukot said that the people who should be appointed to the Cabinet, and the ambassadorial positions should be competent.
The party leader has asked the President-Elect to change the culture of recycling leaders into government positions that have been witnessed in the previous administrations.
“I urge you not to appoint people rejected by voters on the ballot to cabinet and ambassadors. Don’t hire people just because they are loyalists hire competence, and skills break the culture of recycling,” Dr Aukot said.

Previously, some of the leaders appointed to the government positions had served in the past administrations, and also majority were being appointed for being loyal to the ruling party and the President.
Dr Aukot was among the aspirants who wanted to be cleared to run for the presidency but his applications were rejected by the electoral commission for failing to meet the requirements.
His remarks come two days after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairperson Wafula Chebukati declared United Democratic Alliance (UDA) presidential candidate as President-Elect.
The Chairperson said the president-Elect garnered 7,176,141 million votes, which translates to 50.49 per cent of the total votes cast.
The Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party candidate Raila Odinga become second with 6,942,910 votes, translating to 48.85 per cent.

However, the Azimio candidate has dismissed the final tally of the electoral commission, terming it as null, void and unconstitutional.
“The figures announced by Chebukati are null and void and must be quashed by a court of law. In our view, there is neither a legally and validly declared winner nor a President-Elect,” Mr Odinga said.
He also said that the final results were a travesty and a blatant disregard of the Constitution and the laws of Kenya by the IEBC Chairperson, and a minority of IEBC Commissioners.
Mr Odinga also lauded four IEBC Commissioners who rejected the final results for mathematical error that was used to arrive at the percentage given to the four presidential candidates.
The matter will now be heard before the seven-judge bench of the Supreme Court.
