The Kenya Police and Nairobi County Government have launched twin investigations to unravel the cause of fire that razed down part of the building that hosts Nakumatt Lifestyle building on Saturday evening.

According to eye witnesses the fire started from the kitchen of a café located on the building’s first floor at around 8:33pm on Saturday before spreading to the corridors and nearby business premises.

GAS EXPLOSION

The detectives from these two institutions were still at the scene when Nairobi News visited the building on Sunday morning, but declined to offer an interview.

“We have lost several cooking equipment, cutlery, furniture and computers worth millions of shillings. It seems the fire was started by a gas explosion perhaps due to negligence,” one of the restaurant’s employees told Nairobi News.

The two-floor Nakumatt Lifestyle supermarket was not affected by the fire and operations are going on smoothly.
