City candidates found with guns sit KCSE exam in police station
By STELLA CHERONOThree KCSE students are sitting for their exams at the Kilimani police station cells after they were arrested with two guns, bhang and an assortment of stolen items.
The three aged 18, 19 and 26 were arrested after police stormed their hideout after one of their accomplices, who is also in police custody, was found with a section of the stolen goods.
Two of the suspects are students of Soweto Baptist High School while the other one is a candidate at Kangemi High School.
Police said they are looking for a fourth suspect -a student at the Kangemi High School- who escaped during the sting operation on Wednesday night.
“They had two home made guns capable of firing, several rolls of bhang, a mobile phone, perfumes and other assorted items that had been reported to have been stolen,” Nairobi County Police Commander, Japhet Koome said.
ARMED WITH A PISTOL
The suspects were arrested after one Edward Mundia reported that he had been robbed of his belongings on November 4, by three men armed with a pistol.
“They had taken from him a MacBook valued at Sh250,000, a mobile phone worth Sh53,000, a hard disk drive worth Sh15,000, one pair of black shoes valued at Sh1,200 and some assorted clothes,” Mr Koome said.
A suspect by the name of Joseph Kimanthi alias Garang’ was four days later arrested and the complainant identified the shoes the suspect was wearing as his.
“Police commenced investigations and two suspects; Ambrose Osaka and Dennis Mwema were arrested after police got information that they were in possession of the stolen goods.
“They later led police to the people who had sold the items to them. And they were found to be students,” Mr Koome said.
Mr Koome said the suspects would be arraigned in court on Friday, despite them sitting for the KCSE exams.
