Struggling Nairobi City Stars will be hoping to ease their relegation worries when they take on Thika United on Friday afternoon in one of the two Kenyan Premier League matches to be played at City Stadium.

Victory for City Stars will see them leapfrogging 14th placed KCB and moving out of the bottom two bracket for only the first time this season.

Thika have been wobbly in the second half of the league, but stand-in coach Moses Irungu, who took over from Tim Bryett, has led the team to two back-to-back wins.

City Stars were readmitted to the top flight in divisive circumstances at the beginning of the season, and they have collected only four wins this season.

SLEEPLESS NIGHTS

Coach Gabriel Njoroge says that although there is a strong mentality within the squad, danger of relegation is now real for his team with just five matches remaining.

“The thought of relegation has been giving us sleepless nights. The second leg of the season has been better because we have picked points here and there, but consistency remains our greatest problem. I hope we win this match and move out of the relegation zone,” Njoroge told Daily Nation Sport.

The encounter will be preceded by a match between Ushuru and Chemelil Sugar, who are also fighting for survival.

Chemelil are 13th on the table and they need to win their next two matches to ease their relegation woes.

The sugarmillers, who beat the taxmen 1-0 in the first leg encounter four months ago, have not lost any of their last four matches.
