11 disabled and malnourished children were found locked up in an unregistered children’s home in Umoja 2 on Wednesday afternoon.

The children who are believed to be aged between two and 14 years old are said to have been brought in from Siaya by a woman said to have been running the children’s home by the name Born This Way.

Embakasi Children’s officer Ann Thiong’o, however, said that there were no documents to show ‘Born This Way’ children’s home is registered.

“Born This Way is not a genuine children’s home as far as we are concerned,” Ms Thing’o said.

RUNDOWN HOUSE

The rundown house clearly showed signs of neglect that the children were going through, with worn out mattresses and unwashed and dusty utensils scattered everywhere.

The children told neighbors that the last day they ate was a week ago.

Rufus Wachira, a resident of Umoja and a neighbor said, “We always see big cars parked here with even foreigners walking in and out of the house which indicates that the said woman gets aid to help the children.”

Another neighbour Mary Carol added, “The cars come here every time, last week we saw food being offloaded from cars and taken to the house, but after the cars left the same food was taken out and put in a different car and transported away.”

According to sources at Buruburu Police Station, the woman was arrested on Wednesday evening and is in custody waiting to be taken to court.
