Five times Mama Rachel Ruto has made special prayers
By Nairobi News ReporterFirst Lady Mama Rachel Ruto is known for her humility and consistent prayers.
She recently announced the launch of the Faith Diplomacy mission which would ensure every corner of the country experiences prayers.
Additionally while defending her prayers, she said that she is using faith diplomacy as a pillar in her strategy to empower women economically as well as close gaps in gender equity in Kenya.
Here are some of the instances Mama Ruto has made special prayers.
Prayer against LGBTQ
She recently declared that prayer is the savoiur for Kenyans from Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) habits.
Speaking during a church service in Meru, Mama Rachel condemned same-sex marriage saying that the Faith Diplomacy Office will take prayers to the rest of the country to pray for the same.
“We want to strengthen the family institution where we have a father, a mother, and children. LGBTQ is forbidden even in the Bible and African culture. Let us hold on to family values,” she said.
Prayer for rain
She joined President William Ruto during Valentines’ Day to pray prayed for rain. She was captured on her knees as she prayed for the prolonged drought situation in the country to end.
Mama Rachel’s actions appear to be symbolic of Prophet Elijah (1 Kings 18:41-19:8) who in the Bible prayed for rains after a drought of three and a half years.
The national prayers were held at the Nyayo Stadium and attended by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, his wife Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja, and Attorney General Justin Muturi, among other.
Prayer for road accidents
In December 2017, when her husband served as the Deputy President, mama Rachel led cleansing prayers at the Salgaa-Sanchagwan stretch along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway, ahead of the busy festive season.
Mrs Ruto was accompanied by various religious leaders from Nairobi, Nakuru, and Eldoret towns and made three stops along the highway, praying and pouring anointing oil on the road. This followed a spell where a number of accidents had been witnessed on that stretch leading to loss of lives.
Prayer for Mariga to win Kibra MP seat
In 2019, she hosted McDonald Mariga, a then Jubilee candidate for the Kibra by-elections at her home in Karen, for prayers.
At the ceremony, mama Rachel and another preacher led Mariga, who was kneeling at the altar, in prayers to bless his political pursuits.
On her Facebook page, Rachel shared bible verses exhorting Mariga to trust in God for victory in the daunting task ahead of him.
“We joined together in prayer as we all wished him the best as he runs for the seat of a Member of Parliament for Kibra constituency,” she stated. Mariga failed to win that election.
Prayers for State House
Barely a fortnight after President Ruto was sworn in as the fifth president, there was a thanksgiving prayer service held at State House Nairobi.
Mama Rachel while addressing members of the clergy said that they would be holding prayer ceremonies month after month to give thanks to God for answering their prayers.
“When the Lord answers your prayer, you go to give thanks and we will not do it just once; we will keep coming to this altar that the fathers have laid here today in the State House,” she said.
