Former President Uhuru mourns the passing of Namibian President Hage Geingob
By Winnie OnyandoFormer Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has expressed deep sorrow and condolences following the passing of Namibian President Hage Geingob.
In a heartfelt message, Kenyatta praised Geingob as a great leader who played a pivotal role in the liberation of Namibia.
Former President Kenyatta conveyed his sympathies to the family of the late President Geingob and extended his condolences to the people of Namibia.
He remarked, “No words can sufficiently convey the magnitude of the loss as President Geingob was a distinguished servant of the people, an outstanding statesman, and a great leader full of wisdom.”
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, the Government, and the people of Namibia during this difficult time of grieving and loss,” Kenyatta added.

Reflecting on his interactions with President Geingob, Kenyatta expressed his privilege in having engaged with the late leader. He highlighted Geingob’s wisdom and knowledge, which was shared with humility and grace.
“We will always remember and cherish his huge contribution to the welfare of the people of Namibia and Africa as a whole,” Kenyatta remarked, emphasizing the lasting impact of Geingob’s leadership.
The former Head of State urged the people of Namibia to uphold the late President Geingob’s legacy and called upon God to provide comfort to the nation as they mourn the loss of their departed leader.
President Hage Geingob, aged 82, passed away on Sunday, February 4, at a hospital in Namibia’s capital, Windhoek.
His death marks the end of an era for Namibia and prompts reflections on his significant contributions to the liberation and welfare of the nation.
The mourning period extends beyond Namibia, as leaders and citizens worldwide remember and honor the legacy of President Hage Geingob.

President William Ruto also has sent condolences to the Namibian people.
“It is with utmost sadness and regret that I inform you that our beloved Dr. Hage G. Geingob, the President of the Republic of Namibia has passed on today, Sunday 4 February 2024 at around 00h04 at Lady Pohamba Hospital where he was receiving medical treatment from his medical team.” Read the statement.
On his X handle, he noted that the 82-year-old leader was a believer in a unified Africa and strongly promoted the continent’s voice and visibility in the global arena.
“President Geingob was a distinguished leader who served the people of Namibia with focus and dedication. He was a believer of a unified Africa and strongly promoted the continent’s voice and visibility at the global arena.” President Ruto said.
“May God give the people of Namibia strength and courage during this difficult period,” added Ruto.
