Four policemen and two civilians arrested with Sh473,000 in stolen money
By Nyaboga KiageFour police officers have been arrested on suspicion of being in possession of stolen money amounting to Sh473,000.
The four officers namely; Antony Ndegwa Anal, Daniel Lekaneny Sunkuli and Simon Macharia Maina attached to Kasarani Police Station and another officer from Ruai identified as Antony Mwenda were arrested on Wednesday night, June 5.
They were arrested in the car park of Kasarani police station along with two civilians identified as Lukas Magwaga and Young Wakise.
It all started when officers rushed to a house in Utawala and arrested the two civilians who are accused of being involved in a series of robberies.
“Hours later, another DCI team from Nairobi region and DCI Kayole received actionable intelligence and proceeded to Utawala where one of the suspects was believed to be staying,” reads a police report filed at Kasarani police station.
But on arrival at the house, the officers were shocked to find that the duo had already been picked up by an unknown team driving a white Subaru whose registration number had not been recorded.
The team from Kayole and Nairobi region then rushed to Kasarani police station and found the Subaru, registration number GKB 019J, with six occupants in the public car park.
Investigations revealed that four of them were police officers and two were civilians, the main suspects in a robbery that had taken place in Mihang’o and was well captured on CCTV footage.
Kasarani police chiefs were then summoned to explain whether the team was on official duty or not.
“A search was conducted and a total of Sh350,000 was found in the car in which the six were sitting and Sh123,000 was recovered from the pockets of the officers,” the report added.
Two motor vehicles with registration numbers KCN 650U and KDK 052K were also found in the same public car park. One belonged to Mwenda and the other to the suspect identified as Lukas Magwiga.
Police say the money is believed to have been stolen, leading to the arrest of the six, who are now assisting with investigations.
