Girlfriend torches police officer’s house over infidelity claims

A police officer in Migori County is counting losses after his house was reduced to ashes by a fire allegedly started by his girlfriend.

The Police Constable, who is based at Kehancha Police Station in Kuria West, Migori County, was on duty when the incident happened.

The officer had left his girlfriend, 32, in his house at Masaba Police Line and went out for an assignment some 5km away.

While on duty, the officer received a phone call from a neighbour informing him that his house had been set on fire by his girlfriend.

“He (the officer) rushed back and found the in charge of the post and other persons had put out the fire,” the police said in a report.

“The said woman is believed to have differed with the officer in a suspected love triangle,” the report added.

Among the items the officer lost in the fire include a 32-inch TV, a mobile phone, a table, a bed, a mattress, 13kg and 6kg gas cylinders and four plastic chairs.

The fire also destroyed the officer’s Berret, smoke jacket, raincoat, two jungle trousers, two jungle shirts, a pair of blue uniforms, and assorted clothes valued at Sh100,000.

After torching the house, the woman who hails from Njoro, Nakuru County, reportedly fled the scene.

Police have since launched a manhunt for the suspect as investigations into the incident continue.
