Reigning Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia are facing a grim possibility of missing out on continental football for the first time in five years following their exit from the GOtv Shield.

On Sunday, K’Ogalo were bundled out of the domestic cup after losing 1-0 to Nzoia Sugar at the Mumias Sugar Sports Complex.

The domestic cup winners get to represent the country in the Caf Confederation Cup, while the league winners fly the nation’s flag in the Caf Africa Champions league.

Gor currently trail Tusker by seven points in the race to win the league title this term.

At the same time, the club’s technical bench was rocked by controversy on the eve of the Nzoia defeat, with reports that Brazilian coach Ze Maria had fired goalkeeping coach Matthew Ottamax.

OTTAMAX FIRED

Ottamax, himself a former Kenya international, took to social media to confirm the development.

He also found time to blast the club’s current Brazilian coach Ze Maria, whom he accused of castigating for his removal.

“Blank firing coach decides to fire his goalkeeping coach… maybe this will solve his scoring problems! Mine is to say a BIG THANK YOU to Gor Mahia players, staff, the executive office and our loving fans for everything we achieved as a family during the three and a half seasons I was with you. I remain loyal to my Mother Club,” Ottamax wrote.

Gor Mahia are now winless in six consecutive competitive assignments in the past month under the Brazilian trainer.
