House help charged with sexually molesting employer’s two-year-old child
By Joseph NdundaA Nairobi house help who allegedly fondled her employer’s two-year-old son’s private parts is facing sexual assault charges contrary to section 5 (1) of the Sexual Offences Act (SOA) of 2006.
The accused, Ms Joyce Mwangi, has been charged with committing the offence inside her employer’s house in Nairobi on January 16, 2023, in an incident captured on CCTV.
Ms Mwangi is facing an additional charge of indecent act with a child contrary to section 11 (1) of SOA where she is accused of indecently touching the minor. She is accused of intentionally and unlawfully touching the victim’s buttocks and genitals.

The minor’s mother was checking on her son through a CCTV camera which she had installed in her house and connected to her phone when she saw the accused person committing the acts on the minor.
She informed a relative who went to the house to intervene. When she arrived home she confronted the house help with the clip that captured her kissing the minor erotically before lying on top of him.

The child’s mother later reported the incident to the police and shared the video with police officers who arrested the accused person after gathering evidence.
The accused denied the charges before Senior Resident Magistrate Mercy Malingu at the Makadara Law Courts and pleaded for lenient bail and bond terms claiming she is a mother of two children who depend on her.
She was released on a bond of Sh500, 000 without an option of a cash bail. The case will be mentioned on February 15, 2023 before hearing starts on March 1, 2023.
