How botched robbery turned tragic for suspected gangster in Gatundu

A suspected gangster, who was part of a three-man gang, was shot dead by the police on Wednesday night during a botched robbery in Gatundu, Kiambu County.

According to the police, the three had waylaid a man who was walking home towards Ichaweri farm but the would-be victim raised an alarm leading to a shootout between the suspects and police on patrol.

“Police managed to recover a homemade pistol and two pangas from the crime scene,” the police said, adding that a manhunt has been launched for the two suspects who escaped.

In another incident, workers at a gypsum factory in Mwingi, Kitui County escaped death narrowly on Thursday night after the police mistook them for robbers.

The workers at a gypsum factory were on the night shift around 3am when the police officers on patrol started shooting at them.

Fearing for their lives, the panic-stricken workers shouted for help, while pleading with the officers to stop shooting.

The police officers eventually heard the distress calls and stopped shooting. Luckily, no one of the workers was injured during the incident.

The company where the workers are contracted manufactures gypsum, a soft sulfate mineral composed of calcium sulfate dehydrate, with the chemical formula.

Gypsum is used as a fertilizer and as the main constituent in many forms of plaster, drywall and blackboard or sidewalk chalk. Gypsum also crystallizes as translucent crystals of selenite.
