How gangsters with crude weapons pulled off daring go-down robbery
By Joseph NdundaOn Sunday morning, February 5, 2023, a group of men armed with metal bars and crowbars raided Bu-Matt distributors Go-downs on Mombasa road, destroyed the CCTV cameras in the premises and made away with an assortment of electronics from Khafaga Trading Limited valued at Sh5,860,800.
Among the stolen items were 180 pieces of sufuria set, 141 pieces of Khafaga smart video speakers, one TV set, a laptop, four pieces of CCTV cameras and DVR CCTV machine all valued at Sh5,860,800.
In the course of the daring robbery, the gangsters are also reported to have used violence against one director of the company. They accosted the victim as he was reporting to work, roughed up and detained him in a car parked at a position where he could see everything.

Thereafter, they loaded their loot into a waiting truck and sped off. After the gangsters left, the directors reported the matter at the Mombasa Road Police Station and the same was handed over to Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Embakasi offices.
The truck was later intercepted by the police in Kasikeu in Makueni County along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway and two suspects arrested in connection to the robbery.
On Tuesday, the two suspects were arraigned before the Makadara Law Courts in Nairobi to answer to robbery with violence charges. The two, Mr Dennis Gathogo and Mr Wambua Mutua, are accused of committing the robbery, jointly with others who are still at large.

The two are facing an alternative charge of handling stolen goods contrary to section 322 (1) (2) of the penal code after they were allegedly found with some of the items stolen during the robbery.
They were allegedly found with 17 pieces of Khafaga sufuria set and 141 pieces of Khafaga smart video speakers which they are accused of dishonestly retaining in the course of stealing while knowing or having reasons to believe them to be stolen goods.
The accused persons denied the charges before Principal Magistrate Eric Mutunga. They will remain in custody until February 15, 2023 when the matter will be mentioned for a special hearing requested by the prosecution.
