Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has recounted memorable events he encountered while schooling.

Having been brought up in a humble background, Mr Gachagua says he wore his first underwear in form two.

The second in command is an alumnus of Kianyaga High, a Kirinyaga County-based secondary school.

Underwear is the clothing worn under other clothes, typically next to the skin.

“My first underwear I bought while in form two, a 007,” Mr Gachagua said.

The year 1982 is when he was in form two, according to his disclosure.

He made the revelation after meeting his secondary mates, at his office in Harambee Annex, Nairobi.

Hilariously recalling how he lacked some of the student’s privileges because of his family background, the DP said inner clothes were not his mother’s first priority since the matriarch was determined to ensure her children quench their education thirst.

“It was not a priority for my mother to wear an underwear…wewe wacha tulipe school fees kwanza hayo mengine tutapangana mbele,” Gachagua narrated, amid laughter from the fellow alumni.

“Some of us wore shoes the first time in Kianyaga…We have a story to tell,” he said.

During the meeting with the former fellow students, Mr Gachagua however promised that they will soon visit the school to offer mentorship.

“This is a very emotional reunion formula. I am very excited to see you again, I thank you; I am happy for you. Kianyaga is now on the Kenyan map, and we owe gratitude to that institution,” he told them.

Mr Gachagua attended Kianyaga High School for his ‘O’ levels, and ‘A’ levels between 1978 and 1983.

Th DP later proceeded to the University of Nairobi (UoN) for his Higher Education, where he pursued a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science.

He graduated in 1988.
