Kenyan thespian Annstella Karimi, profoundly known for her role as Becky in the popular TV show ‘Sue na Jonnie’, has shared more about her acting career.

Karimi, speaking exclusively to Nairobi News opened up about the rush of excitement she felt when she was awarded her first-ever honours as an actress at last year’s Kalasha Awards, having been in the industry for 7 years without any such achievement.

The actress has been featured in several other local TV shows, such as Kina, and Baba Twins which earned her the win as the Best Supporting Actress in a film for her role Eva.

On how she can switch from one role to another and still maintain her individual personality, Karimi confessed to having blended her own personality with that of her characters.

“Honestly, at this point, I think I have played almost the same thing for the last five years. There’s no difference between me and my characters,” she said.

She further noted that being in such a cutthroat industry leaves her questioning her acting every day as it drains over time. When asked if she ever considered quitting, the actress remarked,

“Everyday. I think of quitting everyday. It’s honestly draining. Like I said earlier, I lost track, I can’t differentiate myself from my characters, so I usually take breaks.”

Karimi also revealed that she is interested in pursuing screenwriting in her career and will take a back seat to active acting for a while.

“I actually want to write. I would like to experience being in the background,” she said.

Sharing her two cents on how one can have a successful acting career, Karimi advised,

“If it feels right do it. I was once told if you’re acting, and you feel the need to do something that the director didn’t tell you, then do it. If it’s wrong then you’ll be corrected.”

While celebrating her first-ever nomination and win at the Kalasha Awards, Karimi mentioned that she used to attend the event’s previous editions, accompanying others as their guest.

Being her first-ever nomination and win in her career, the actress advises budding actors never to give up and keep pushing past their limits.
