Inooro TV anchor Ken Wa Kuraya breaks silence after arrest

Ken Wakuraya, a well-known Inooro TV presenter and country music lover, found himself in a distressing situation on while performing at a popular club in Kasarani, Nairobi on June 24, 2023.

The incident led to Wakuraya and his band members spending a night in police custody, prompting a public outcry.

Wakuraya, who also leads a band, took to his Facebook page to share details of the unfortunate occurrence.

He expressed his gratitude for the concerns shown by well-wishers regarding their arrest.

Wakuraya questioned the circumstances that led to his band, who work tirelessly to make ends meet, being detained in police cells while criminals roam free.

“Thanks good people for your concerns over our arrest yesterday it was soo unfortunate that a band that is working hard to make ends meet can spend a night n half day in police cells while crooks and all manner of criminals are walking free,” he wrote.

In a statement on his Facebook page, the former Tahidi High actor claimed police arrested him due to his inability to pay Ksh 20,000.

“What kind of Kenya is this? Is there a curfew? Why arrest artists? I’ve been arrested, and now I’m in a police car because I can’t pay 20k. I don’t know where we’re going,” Wakuraya wrote on Saturday evening.

During the ordeal, Wakuraya shared live videos on social media, offering glimpses of their situation inside the police vehicle.

Some individuals captured in the videos also complained about the confiscation of their mobile phones.

In one of the recordings, the detained entertainers could be heard shouting, “thieves, thieves, thieves!” as they struck the vehicle’s walls, emphasizing their frustration and dissatisfaction with the situation.

The incident has raised concerns among fans, fellow artists, and supporters of the entertainment industry.

Many have voiced their outrage over Wakuraya’s arrest, questioning the treatment of artists and the priorities of law enforcement authorities.
