Janet Mbugua: I am looking for my person!

The star-studded host has always been known for her grace and eloquence, but this time, she took a detour into personal relationships, sparking a much-needed discussion on a topic that has long been glorified.
In a candid conversation on her YouTube channel, Janet Mbugua began her thought-provoking discourse by stating, “I feel like the definition of a soulmate has been romanticised a lot. A soulmate is somebody you feel can echo the desires you have. Like someone who understands your taste in music, who finishes your sentences, like, maybe I could be wrong, but I feel like it is the very romanticised version of a partner.”
She went on to express her current perspective on love, saying, “Now should somebody be lucky enough to find somebody who is a soulmate, I guess that’s the dream, but where I am at right now, I think I would very much find my person than my soulmate. When I say my person, I mean somebody I would do life with, whether it’s a marriage or partnership, as long as we understand each other and have a lot of things in common. You basically function well together.”

One of the most intriguing aspects of Mbugua’s discussion was her insight into the potential pitfalls of the soulmate concept. She cautioned, “I feel like when you go the soulmate way, you set yourself up for unrealistic expectations.”
By encouraging individuals to seek compatibility and common ground rather than an idealised soulmate, Mbugua brings a refreshing and pragmatic perspective to the search for love.
While Mbugua’s views may not be the traditional fairytale depiction of love, they resonate with those who value companionship, shared interests, and the ease of coexisting with a partner.
In August, the former news anchor took to her Instagram account to share a love poem she had written for her ex-boyfriend 18 years ago. Mbugua posted a photo of the poem, expressing her disbelief that she had been so deeply invested in her feelings 18 years ago.
The poem was about her heartbreak, and its title symbolised the end of their union and the beginning of new separate paths. She noted that the poem was an original piece from her personal collection.
“Another original poem from my collection. Feels like I’m sharing a super vulnerable piece of me online,” Janet Mbugua wrote.
Despite acknowledging that she felt as though she was revealing fragments of her emotions online, she extended warm wishes to her fans for a ‘happy-in-their-feelings’ Tuesday.
On July 31, Janet Mbugua shared another love poem, revealing that most of her poems were centered around themes of love, lost love, passion, and relationships.
Janet Mbugua was previously married to Eddie Ndichu.
