John Muteti appointed acting CEO of Nacada

John Muteti has been appointed the acting Chief Officer of the National Authority for the Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (Nacada).

As per a statement released by the authority on May 15, 2023, Muteti succeds Victor Okioma, who retired upon the completion of his five-year term.

Nacada board chair, Stephen Mairori, expressed confidence in Muteti’s appointment, citing his extensive experience spanning over thirty years in academia, the private sector, and the public sector.

“Muteti will be instrumental in steering the Authority’s mandate as he brings to the table a wealth of over thirty years’ experience from the academia, private and public sectors,” Nacada board chair Stephen Mairori said.

Currently serving as the Director of Research Policy and Planning at Nacada, Muteti holds a Doctorate degree in Strategic Management from Nelson Mandela University, South Africa, as well as a Master’s degree in Economics and Social Studies from the University of Manchester, UK.

He also possesses a Post Graduate Diploma in Social Studies from Victorian University, Manchester, a Post Graduate Certificate in Project Management from Bradford University, UK, and a degree in Economics from the University of Nairobi.

In his acceptance speech, Muteti expressed his commitment to utilizing this opportunity to spearhead programs in alignment with Nacada’s strategic plan and guided by the board’s policy direction.

Nacada, a semi-autonomous state corporation under the Ministry of Interior and Coordination, collaborates with various institutions and stakeholders such as schools, workplaces, colleges, universities, county governments, ministries, parastatals, faith-based institutions, community-based organizations (CBOs), non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and self-help groups to promote a society free from alcohol and drug abuse
