According to family sources, an ailing Humphrey had recently arrived home from the US to receive medical care.
Humphrey’s health struggles came to light in July 2023, shortly after his arrival in the US from Uganda.
Thereafter he underwent extensive surgery and was subsequently diagnosed with stage four colon cancer at the beginning of March, 2023 as revealed by his father, Gerald Mayanja.

The family made the difficult decision to bring him back to Uganda, to receive palliative care in familiar surroundings.
In a social media post from 2023, Humphrey shared a harrowing account of his health journey, recounting the moment he realised something was amiss.
“This is not a pleasant picture. I didn’t take it. But while at Schiphol Airport, I kept falling asleep and waking up to intermittent fevers,” he wrote.
Describing the debilitating pain he experienced, Humphrey recalled seeking medical attention and undergoing surgery to address his condition.

“The flight was delayed but after 10 hrs of lay over I was finally on flight to Logan Airport. I got home safe (or so I thought). I got some rest but when I woke up I realised that my stomach was inflating itself every 5 mins,” Humphrey said.
“This was so painful that I could not walk or eat anything. ‘My Best friend’ decided to drive me to the ER, I got diagnosed and a decision was made that I be retained for further analysis.
“They immediately inserted a Nasogastric tube(very irritating process) inside me. Believe me or not basokoola kakika mu lubuto nange n’entya. Anyway, it all ended in surgery,” he wrote.
May his soul rest in peace!
