Kabi Wa Jesus: I started using weed in class five
By Elizabeth NgigiContent creator Peter Kabi, popularly known as Kabi Wa Jesus, has courageously opened up about his early exposure to drug use, specifically marijuana (weed), during his primary school years.
Kabi, who has since embraced a life of faith, revealed that his involvement with illegal drugs began as early as fifth grade when he was introduced to them by a group of friends who had affiliations with a criminal gang.
In a candid and reflective statement, Kabi shared:
“I found myself in the company of friends who were lured into the world of illegal substances. Their intention was to initiate me into a criminal gang.”
Kabi went on to explain that his peers convinced him that initiation into the gang required circumcision, a plot that could have led him to persuade his parents to allow him to undergo the procedure in class 6. Fortunately, this plan never materialized.
Reflecting on the potential consequences of drug use, Kabi cautioned against romanticizing substances like marijuana, particularly for adults who may have a degree of control over their choices.
He stressed the need to consider the influence such behavior may have on impressionable young minds.
He expressed concern for children who might be watching and said:
“How will their young minds be saved from this?”
Kabi further disclosed that he was diagnosed with tuberculosis (TB) and was advised by a doctor to quit smoking both marijuana and cigarettes.
While he managed to abstain for a short period, he eventually relapsed into addiction.
However, Kabi’s journey took a significant turn when he embraced faith and found salvation. He recalled the pivotal moment, saying:
“On September 15, 2013, I found salvation and became born again. To my surprise, the moment I accepted Jesus as my savior, the urge to smoke vanished!”
The entertainer attributed his recovery to his newfound faith and the power of testifying one’s faith and struggles.
He cited Revelation 12:11, which reads, “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony.”
