Kenya Kwanza MP accuses Azimio lawmakers of laziness
By Sammy WaweruA member of parliament allied to the Kenya Kwanza government has launched a scathing attack on the opposition Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition, alleging that its lawmakers are lazy.
Geoffrey Ruku, the MP for North Mbeere, claims that Azimio MPs are failing to hold the government to account because they have become captives of ODM party leader Raila Odinga.
Mr Odinga is also the head of the Azimio coalition.
Referring to the former Prime Minister’s remarks that President William Ruto allegedly ‘bought’ Azimio MPs to weaken the opposition, Mr Ruku said ODM and Wiper MPs were so lazy that they could not bring bills to Parliament to help the country grow.
“We have heard Raila Odinga saying that some opposition MPs have been bought by President William Ruto… The truth is that no MP has been bought by the government. They were elected to serve the people of Kenya and we are doing that work according to the rule of law,” Ruku said in a video that has been circulating online.

“But there are Azimio MPs who belong to ODM and Wiper who are just lazy in their work. In Parliament, every lawmaker has the right to introduce a bill, propose amendments to bills and introduce different laws to help our country grow,” the MP added.
According to Ruku, the parliament has employed many people to assist the MPs in developing and improving laws.
“Azimio MPs only know how to make misleading statements at funerals and participate in demonstrations. They forget that they have a duty; to be in Parliament and come up with laws, bills and various proposals to help Kenya grow,” he explained.
The lawmaker, who is allied to the President William Ruto-led administration, blamed Raila Odinga, claiming he had encouraged opposition MPs to fail to hold the government to account.
“Azimio leaders, you are the ones who have made your MPs lazy. They worship you like gods… They only know how to complain,” Ruku alleged.
When President Ruto took office in September 2022, he held meetings with some legislators from the Azimio party, a move that Raila Odinga described as illegitimate.
Some of the MPs invited to meet Dr Ruto at State House in early 2023 include Felix Odiwuor (Langata), Mark Nyamita (Uriri), Caroli Omondi of Suba South, Gideon Ochanda (Bondo), Elisha Odhiambo of Gem constituency, Paul Abuor (Rongo) and Walter Owino of Awendo.
Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda is also listed among the invited lawmakers.
Mr Odinga urged them to resign and seek re-election through the Kenya Kwanza Alliance parties.
