Kenyans to compete for Sh2.6m art grant
By HILARY KIMUYU, @hilarykimuyuKenyan artists have been selected to be part of a Sh2.6 million grant by the British Council launched on Thursday night.
Dubbed nAnA, acronym for new Art new Audiences, the grants aims at partnering and supporting more than 100,000 artists and organisations worldwide each year.
It also seeks to provide opportunities for artists from the United Kingdom to collaborate with artists overseas.
East Africa Arts is the British Council’s framework for working between Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ethiopia and the UK. The programme connects new audiences to new art, shares skills of creative, and ignites partnerships between the creative sectors of the UK and East Africa.
The British Council’s global work in the arts has grown substantially over the last five years, delivering more impact and reaching more people around the world than ever before.
“The Arts help us find new ways of connecting with and understanding each other through creativity, which is why our work in the Arts has always been important part ,” said Tony Reilly, Country Director, British Council Kenya during the launch.
Participants will have until July, 31, 2016 to submit their artwork in order to qualify for the grant.
