Former Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale has challenged leaders from Western Kenya who are in Nasa to break free from ODM leader Raila Odinga, who he has described as ‘old’ and ‘unreliable’.

Khalwale has also asked ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi to consider forming a political alliance with Deputy President William Ruto ahead of the 2022 general elections.

“Whoever God proposes for Kenyans in 2022, I will come back here in Lugari to ask you to vote for him,” said Khalwale who is reportedly keen to succeed Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya in 2022,” Khalwale said.

“But in the event God asks me what do you think? I think we have several leaders, we have (Musalia) Mudavadi and (Moses) Wetangula. I can propose them, plus other leader all over Kenya. But if I’m to be honest with you, before God, there is one leader I cannot propose, he is not straight forward, one Raila Amollo Odinga.”

RUTO’S RUNNING MATE

He went on: “William Ruto is powerful but is still a young man, we will call him and discuss with him plans to pull power from the other side to this place. He could say ‘yes, I’m ready to deputize Mudavadi.'”

“He could also ask Mudavadi to deputize him. But then we will ask Mudavadi, this young man, how did he manage to convince you to deputize him? Why didn’t you say no? That is the future we are working towards.”

Mr Ruto is seen as a front-runner in the race to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta with several leaders from Central and Coast regions, including Governors Oparanya, Anne Waiguru (Kirinyaga), Mwangi wa Iria (Murang’a), Alfred Mutua (Machakos) having already been mentioned as his possible running mates.
