Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai kicked out of Nairobi County Assembly
By Kevin CheruiyotKileleshwa MCA Robert Alai has been suspended from Nairobi County Assembly premises until further notice.
The politician and blogger found it tough in the County Assembly on May 4, 2023, when Nairobi Assembly Speaker Kennedy Ng’ondi ordered the sergeant at arms to escort him out of the chamber.
The Speaker announced the member will remain suspended awaiting an outcome from the Powers and Privileges Committee that will investigate him.
“The sole responsibility lies with the Powers and Privileges Committee. For that reason, I direct the honourable member to leave the sitting until such a time that we shall receive a detailed report,” Speaker said.
Nairobi News could not establish the genesis of the beef between Alai and Majority Leader Peter Imwatok
During the session on May 4, 2023, Mr Imwatok, who is also Makongeni Ward rep was left shedding tears at the Chambers after differing with Alai outside the house.
Alai’s misconduct which is yet to be known annoyed several members who unanimously agreed to his suspension.
Also, he will not be allowed to sit in County Assembly Committees until the matter is settled.
Alai is not a stranger to controversy.
In 2021, he was arrested and detained at the Kilimani Police Station after he was caught on camera appearing to assault controversial artiste Alex Apoko, popularly known as Ringtone.
He was later arraigned before Kibra senior magistrate, where he was denied charges of causing grievous bodily harm to the artiste and damaging his car.
He was once also spotted in a confrontation with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna at an Azimio rally forcing veteran politician Raila Odinga who was addressing the rally at that time, to shout his name.
Besides, Alai is known for his controversial messages on his social media pages where he enjoys an immense following.
