Restless thousands of shoppers caused a stampede at the venue of a mega-sale of clothes on Thursday at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC).

The shoppers forced their way past National Youth Service personnel who were manning the entrance of Tsavo Hall where the sale is being held.

The shoppers turned rowdy in full view of Industry Secretary Adan Mohammed as organisers  insisted on allowing between 30 to 50 shoppers at a time inside the hall.

However the situation was quickly brought under control.

By 9am, the queue had snaked outside the gates of KICC as eager shoppers sought to take advantage of the sale.

The mega sale of locally manufactured clothes is a government sponsored campaign under the theme of Buy Kenya, Build Kenya.

Organisers have extended the sale to Saturday to accomodate the overwhelming response from shoppers.
