A man found with Sh2,500 worth of bhang pleaded guilty to charges of possession of narcotic drugs and claimed he is epileptic and smokes weed to suppress seizures.

Marvin Lucas Gatonye was charged with possession of the banned drug worth 60 grams in three sachets and additional 75 rolls of the bhang in contravention of the narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances Act of 1994.

Gatonye was spotted by officers from Parklands police station who were on foot patrol along Chambers road in Ngara, Nairobi, and stopped for “looking suspicious”.

He was apprehended and a quick search was immediately conducted on him where he was found with the bhang in a small side bag.

Gatonye admitted the charges before senior principal magistrate Esther Bhoke of Kibera law courts.

Bhoke contested Gatonye’s argument that bhang helps reduce seizures and asked whether he had a prescription for it which he said he did not have.

Gatonye will remain in custody until Friday awaiting a social inquiry report before sentencing.
