Man who insulted police officers jailed for six months
By Joseph NdundaA man who hurled insults at police officers at Kayole Police Station in Nairobi will serve a six months’ jail term if he fails to pay a fine of Sh10,000.
Mr Peter Mwangi was handed the penalty by Makadara Chief Magistrate Francis Kyambia after he pleaded guilty to charges of creating a disturbance in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace contrary to section 95 (1) of the penal code.
Mr Mwangi admitted that he used abusive language on the police officers and told them that they are illiterate in an incident that happened on March 3, 2023.

The court heard that on the material day, the convict went to the station while drunk and started insulting the officers on duty.
The officers escorted him out of the station but he returned later still, shouting insults at them. It was at that point that he was placed in custody for creating a disturbance.

When he was arraigned in court, he told Mr Kyambia that he had gone to the station to check on his brother who had been arrested and a disagreement occurred between him and the officers leading to the incident.
He pleaded for leniency saying he is remorseful for his actions.
Mr Kyambia said he considered the fact that the convict is a first offender but also considered the circumstances under which the offence was committed. The convict was given 14 days to appeal the sentence.
